I Need a Vacation

Vacation. It seems like such a foreign word to me know. When you’re a stay-at-home mom you don’t often get the luxury of having a day off. Going on a vacation is an even rarer occurrence. And I mean a real vacation. Visiting the in-laws does not count. Mostly because the kids are still with you. Even though you absolutely adore your kids, aren’t there times when you wish the 10th Doctor would show up on your doorstep with the TARDIS and whisk you away to another planet? Okay, maybe that’s just me.

My husband and I haven’t been on a vacation sans kids in a long time. Mostly due to the lack of funds and childcare. But, oh, how I long to go on a real vacation. Where we’d have to leave the state. Or even the country. One where we wouldn’t have to get up at 6am or have to worry about putting our daughters down for a nap. Where I could lounge in a hammock with a good book and have a frothy umbrella drink at noon. What? I’d be on vacation. People drink at noon when they’re on vacation.

A cruise vacation through Asia or the Mediterranean would be nice. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Cruises are actually quite enjoyable. Aside from the tons of shore excursions you can participate in (which tend to be on the pricey side), there are also a lot of free activities on the ship itself. Plus most meals and drinks are included.

A vacation where we could city hop throughout Europe by rail would be lovely. We’d be able to catch a show in London’s West End, have a picnic in the Champ de Mars, bike through Amsterdam, have a pint of beer in Berlin, or even watch some flamenco dancing in Barcelona.

Since it will be quite a while before the hubby and I can go on a real vacation, I’d love to live vicariously through all of you.

Where are you going on your next vacation?

What's up, Buttercup?
