Big Island Brewhaus and Taqueria is a cozy Mexican restaurant in the town of Waimea. It is located almost right next to one of my favorite places in the area, Mamane Bakery. Parking might be challenging if you head there at night but they do offer overflow parking at a nearby church.
You seat yourself at an open table. There is also a bar to sit at if you prefer. The fresh made chips and salsa are complimentary. I love free stuff.
I’m not a big beer drinker but my hubby loves it. He decided to get this sampler.
We got a half order of the Astro-nachos with carnitas. The salsa had a bit of a kick but the cinnamon in the beans balanced it out.
We split an order of the Baja Fish Tacos. The fish was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce had a bit of a fruity sweetness to it. While the taco was tasty, I was getting pretty full from all the chips, salsa, and nachos I already ate.
But somehow I managed to save some room for the Hot Brownie a la mode.
I enjoyed this place but there was one huge minus. They never refilled our water glasses. That’s just something I do not love. We may visit Big Island Brewhaus and Taqueria the next time we visit the in-laws at the Waikoloa (if we don’t head to Village Burger). I’ll just make sure to not fill up on the free stuff.
